I know this has been asked before but i cant find the thread on this. I pull over with my car running on three cylinders, number one wont fire. i hold it near the engine and click click click nice strong spark strange i place it back on the plug and nothing i thing hay thats strange maybe the plugs dead i place it near the spark plug and click click click it sparks and the runs the cylinder revs nicely i push the lead on and away it goes??? now i push the lead on after this happening several times and nothing i pull it all the way off but leave it close and it runs nicely but i leave it even slightly on and nothing? I think i remember something being said about resistors on the lead? no idea but really need the help? just not the same driving on three cylinders cheers chris |

The resistance that you`re creating by leaving it a little way away from the plug making it jump so far, makes for a stronger spark,,, more current is drawn for it to jump the gap, therfor stronger spark...your plug is probably stuffed |

ahh cheers ill check that out and see whats the go might be fouled or need a re gap cheers |

The voltage drops each time it has to jump a gap, exactly as it would drop across a resistor. This presents less voltage at the plug, which stops it from arcing over the faulty part. Once a spark finds an easy path to ground, it will pretty much devote all it's energy through that path. If you give it only enough juice to just jump the gap, then it will do so. If you pull it back further, the arc will eventually fail. Resistance only ever reduces current. Inductance and Reactance (other voodoo types of resistance) do strange things as well, but only to advance, retard or maintain the spark. |

 "HEAD EXPLODES" Thanks for the indepth and helpful responses i think i understand what your saying however voltage current amps etc all confuse me fairly easily was a fouled plug in the end need to figure my mixture out still think i need to make some calls and add some mods in the near future over fuels when it idles too long thanks again for your help
