ok i have herd that if you are going to put a lighten flywheel on your car you get off the mark quicker becasue you pick up revs quicker but does this also mean when u hit a hill it will slow down a lot quicker ? or will it go beta up hills |

I dont think a lighter flywheel improves tourqe so I doubt it would affect your hill climbing ability. |

A lightened flywheel means the engine 'sees' a lighter load (equivalent to about the weight of a passager lighter) so you are quicker through the gears - thats all. |

Actually - Yes. Lightened flywheel increases the take off accelleration, because its lighter load on the engine (therefore you can take off quicker and go through the gears quicker) Also actually makes it somewhat easier to stall the motor and you have to rev it a tad more to take off - that sounds wrong... ummm, I mean, think of a VW golf, let the clutch out in 1st on a hill with a TINY bit of goo pedal and it just crawls up the hill no problem - because the flywheel is SOOO big and heavy it rotates (forgot the 'term' 'on its own' Up hills, you wont even notice it... but Yes, it does slow down quicker too... but not anything you will notice. Inertia Pete... Nar don't listen to them about the stalling bit. I have found it nil difference between my original 1100 with stock flywheel and my current pretty light flywheel and traingular (very tricky indeed) back plate in regards to stalling. The engine does want to rev easier and eats up gears very very quickly. If you have your engine apart for a rebuild, then definately do it. If not, there are easier ways to boost performance (exhaust/induction/ignition) |

Maybe you just learnt how to drive finally chong ![]() And there is lightened then there is lightened ![]() Oh, and yeah my crank is lightened wedged balanced so is the backplate. Flywheel is umm, well, lightened and you can see through the big holes too and yeah so are the rods haha ![]() All makes a difference Pete |

You wedged your backplate? ![]() Stalling is not an issue, although I have the idle set higher as it's just too lumpy at low rpm. |

backplate isnt wedged lol but is shaped differently ![]() Yeah, my idle is 1400 at the moment usually 1100 -1200 but im playing with tune so its high at the moment. Stalling - maybe its the clutches im running (or the driver lol) mine was EASY to stall until I thrash the clutch quite a bit. Happy to stand corrected on the stalling comment though... Pete |

The weight in the flywheel is mainly to make the engine idle smoothly. Important in a standard production car. For a performance engine, light is the way to go. Who cares about the idle. Light flywheel makes the engine respond quicker to the throttle but doesn't give you any more power or torque. Pete |
