Do you put the primary gear oil seal in the housing before assembly of the box to the block or after? |

I've done it both ways. It's a little harder to make sure it doesn't get damaged when you assemble the housing complete with the seal, but you can really make sure it's seated nicely. I've never had it leak either way... |

I always put it in the housing, then put the housing over the primary gear. I have a roll of 2" wide electrical tape that I wrap around the primary gear to stop it damaging the seal, then I unwrap the tape when it's all bolted up |

So are you putting the box and block together then adding the housing? I know it sounds a dumb question but the inference from the Mini Expert is that you bolt up the housing to the gear box off before assembley to block. |

if that's the bit about working out the right thickness for the idler gear washers, what they don't say is that you work out the end float, then take the cover off the box, assemble the motor & gearbox, then put the cover on again |
