I'm looking for a good 1971 Mini K for photos to go with our Mini K feature in Issue 18.

Victoria would be best - Melbourne ideal, Geelong perfect.

If coming to the GDO, let me know and I'll come over and have a peek.

Cheers,
Watto.

I think this one might be a late K Watto.
I took the pic at Issy Day.
John Smidt restored it, and it is purely immaculate.
I'd be more than welcome to go take some pics of it for you if the owner would want it.

Thanks Chop.

That one does look very good from that one pic.

I will keep it in mind and if I can't find something suitable close at hand, I would be happy for you to shoot it for me.

I do have pics of a 1971 Mini GP from Queensland (yes, somehting a little a different and there will be details in the mag) but as it has non-standard parts on it, I still require an original or standard spec car for the feature.

Will let you know.

Cheers,
Watto.

watto, are you going to be able to shed any light on the old chestnut of how many flappy-door-handle-Ks were built? I hear it was about 200 (of which I must have seen at least half).

Every Mini that was made from 1971 (actually part way through December 70) had lift up door handles. It was not some limited edition of 200, it was not a special thing to do with the Clubman, it was because of the introduction of the ADR (Australian Design Rule) regarding door locks.
So they made K's and Cooper S's with lift up handles for about 10 months (my guess) so they would have made about 5000 round nose cars with lift up handles.

As far as I know they never made any roundies with clubby tail lights.

Fitting Clubbie tail lights was a fashionable mod in the 70s and 80s.. my 6/70 K has them.. not a bad job, but I'd prefer the original lights.

Hi

I'd be more than happy if you could get the details off the id plate and send them to me for my register of lift up door handled Mini K's.

I'd happily accept this information from anyone on any qualifying car actually :D

Cheers
Steve

So, how many cars do you have currently on your register, but more importantly, what are the lowest and highest chassis numbers, and the compliance dates for the highest and lowest?

Cheers,
Watto.

But for general information, I have 33 cars on the register so far spanning 2213 vehicles from 12/70 to 6/71

Cheers
Steve
