Post subject:  Engine Rebuilders

Hi All,

Just a quick question, I'm rebuilding a 1098 engine, would anyone know a good reliable company for head machining, crank re-grinds etc in the NSW, Windsor Area.

I could always take a firm grip on my wallet, hit the yellow pages and pray but thought id ask if anyone had used someone they would recommend.

Cheers

Johnno

I would talk to Graham Russell. (02) 9630 2195

When my engine was done, Graham sent the head to a company in Hornsby. He can do the crankshaft and milling in his own shop in North Rocks (near Parramatta)

Regards

I think that's probably the other way around. Graham sends his cranks to someone in Seven Hills for crack testing and possibly some maching, but wedging of cranks, and any head work he does himself. I'd be very surprised if he sent a head out anywhere unless it was because he was too busy, or if there was something particularly wrong with it that required fixing over and above servicing or performance porting/polishing.

That would be St George Cranks on Bearing Rd Seven Hills "Spiro"

But I Pop into Graham Russells place and have a talk about what you want 113 North Rocks rd North Rocks. Dont expect it to be clean as he is a busy man

I have to get a Ausmini sticker on the pole out the front

Graham does all the head work himself, unless it needs unleaded seats fitted, ot K-liners fitted in the valve guides.

Yeah, GR for sure.
He does the unleaded seats Kev - just doesnt like to ... its the old debate we always had about unleaded seats vs regular...

He does send away for K-lines though... and crack testing but pretty much EVERYTHING else is done there.
Oh, he sends away for hardening too - ie/ drive shafts, etc etc

Johnno - your in Vineyard ay? Im over in Kellyville and there are a few of us around the hills...

Cheers,
Pete

Pete he sends em out if you want/need unleaded seats, I asked already. Too time consuming to bore accurately on his mill (or mine). There is a special machine made for this job, he doesn't have one but the head joint does.

Dont disagree with ya often Kev - but I guarantee he was doing unleaded seats last week ;)

Might have been a one off job - maybe they were in a hurry - oh wait - then they wouldnt send to GR would they

Not saying he can't do it, just that usually they get sent away.
We did an inlet seat in my Moke head this year, I bored it here and he fitted it.

Yeah I know - he was grumbling most of the time too... must have been a one off gig.

Who wants unleaded seats anyway :)

Well when you have already fitted big valves then worn the seats away, inserts and original valves look a great idea.
I'm doing up an ex-race head 940 for my boss at the moment, it had big exhausts in, then it later got inserts fitted and standard ex valves.. Good job, no problems.

Correct - I had unleaded valve seats put in and they went to Hornsby.
