Post subject:  ADR compliance for 1999 MPi
Thinking ahead to 2010, when the Mini 40 will be eligible for personal import (since that is when we are due to return) and looking for the info.

RTA says any car under 30yrs old must be RHD, so I am already up for the conversion there.

Anyone done the compliance to ADRs for a 1999 MPi?

Anyone know exactly what changes were required and for which ADRs? (i am not interested in speculation, i can do that all by myself, just the facts please).

I am not sure I love this car enough to justify the expense to myself yet, let alone to my wife, so i need an exact budget based only on facts. If no one can answer this I will take the ADRs in hand and start measuring, ticking off etc. with the car in front of me.

Would be best to ask Steve at Brickworx, but I got a 1988 rover from Steve and it had to have new seatbelts front and rear (inertia reel in rear), child restraints in rear, high back seats, door intrusion bars and I think that was about it.
Your Mini 40 should have all these things already.
So should not be to much left to do.

The main thing that my 1990 Rover personal import needed was the inertia reel seatbelts.

I don't remember it having to comply with ADRs, this was 3 years ago so my memory is hazy but I recall Chris (@ OzCooper) telling me that I was lucky that I'd brought it in as a personal import cos all it needs was the blue slip (for NSW) whereas if i'd brought it in on the old 15 year rule (which was also a possibility) it would have cost a lot more as it needed to comply with different regulations. (I didn't ask all the details at the time but maybe this means that ADRs apply then)

I may be talking bullcrap but that was my recollection of my experience, so you might be OK :)

Depends which state you are going to live in as to what you will have to do, best to get onto the state authority and find a qualified engineer that is approved by the state you are going to live in

1999 Personal import won't need much at all,
not very hard to make comply. you will get a statement of requirements upon submitting your paperwork.
let me know if you want to see a previous copy of this we did for the same car.
being a pommie car it will probably need a new rear frame and some rust repairs.

OK it will be in NSW, hence my reference above to RTA and RHD conversion.

Steve, I would love to see a copy of what was done by you previously. PM sent.

It is not a pommie car, but originally delivered to Germany, then brought over to Netherlands about 6 years ago.

As to rusty subframes, the reason we bought this car is that it is ALL original, no rust. All the previous owners have kept it off salty roads in winter. We are doing the same, as it is parked now for the winter. It went though its last roadworthy inspection without needing anything done.
