Hi all :D sorry for all the stupid questions,

I have had a Mini inspected today which has no inner guards (now im no mechanic but i believe the mechanic was talking about the front bodywork which can be unbolted and removed) not entirely sure.

Is this legal in South Australia?

Also there are a few other issues on the car ie:

Water pump weeping
engine driven cooling fan on backwards
speedo not working
rattle in left hand door
front wheel balence/tyre shimmy
suspect rust in l/hand sill
slight oil leak at r/hand diff oil seal and primary gear seal.
washer aiming and needs push button type switch
battery securing
weber needs re-mounting and suspect air leak
wiper arm tension
compressions 180 180 180 200
oil pressure 70/50 hot

Anyone think much of these other issues would make road worthy difficult?

Cheers

With minis all guards are welded not bolted, other wise I can't help with that issue.
All the rest should be fixed up before an attempt at a roadworthy. A leaky engine is frowned upon.

Water pump weeping-You should find out why the water pump is leaking, it could just be the gasket but probably it's the pump itself so I'd say chuck a new one on and at the same time you can fit the fan properly.
engine driven cooling fan on backwards
speedo not working-The speedo needs to be working for a roadworthy. It could be a snapped cable, unplugged at either end or worse the internals of the speedo unit are damaged
rattle in left hand door-All minis rattle, get use to it
front wheel balence/tyre shimmy
suspect rust in l/hand sill-If it's not to visible they may not notice it but if they do find it the mini will fail.
slight oil leak at r/hand diff oil seal and primary gear seal.-You may be able to give the engine a good degrease and clean just before the inspection and with luck they wont notice the oil leak. Otherwise you probably need a couple of oil seals.
washer aiming and needs push button type switch
battery securing
weber needs re-mounting and suspect air leak-shouldn't affect a roadworthy. :?
wiper arm tension
compressions 180 180 180 200-good enough
oil pressure 70/50 hot

These are all fairly easy things just time consuming, even if your not mechanically minded you can probably do half of these yourself if not all of them  . Do you have any pics of the car? particular engine bay and the dash and what year and model is it?

i Believe from what the owner tells me you can take the front bodywork of to make it easy to work on the engine like the picture of the light blue car Below (not the same car)

inner guards are needed to build up under bonnet air pressure, this pushes out air through the only outlet, the radiator. :)

Not sure on the legallity of inner guards missing (though as mentioned they are advisable to keep) but I would be checking that it has been engineered for having the removable front guards/bonnet . The front panel of a mini is structural and will need engineer's certificate to show the subframe has been braced to the remaining bodywork to the same strength as the oringal panels did (if you can understand that) .

So is the fan on backwards or is the tester just unfamiliar with Minis?

The air is meant to blow out through the wheel arch.

I got a guy from Mini Link Automotive to inspect it for me,
so I'd be guessing it's on backwards?

It'll still blow the air out through the wheelarch if on backwards. Just not as much...

I'm confused, the first car has open bonnet, not flip front, so what is the chatter about missing inner guards? Nice looking car BTW, like the blue/white, and some bling under the bonnet!
I think your from SA, pretty basic checks mainly to make sure the car is not re-numbered or chop-shop re-plated stolen car, are required to complete rego transfer. When I bought my van from NSW the biggest drama was that the engine number has a lower case 'a' and they had never seen a lower case letter, 5 heads under the bonnet muttering and I was waiting 'behind the line' chewing my finger nails

Molly moke, it says that the bottom car is not the same car. And if you look closely at the engine shot you can see that the inner guards are missing.

PS: nice looking car

the first car can also have its front removed like that one, so it has no inner guards.
