 Post subject: Fuel tank Blocked

well i got the mini turned over and running with fuel put in the weber But as soon as the bowl drained empty no more engine runing. we went thru the fuel line points and worked out Its in the fuel tank What should i do? is there a mesh over the fuel outlet in the Tank?
ive syphoned the tank and the Fuel is almost grey its yucko. so what should i do ive poked at it with whipper snipper chord it goes no where.
We did swish the fuel around (while fuel was in it) To try and loosen up the crud But no fuel. Should i drill out the hole with a Magnetic drill bit and put a fuel filter just after the tank in the Boot. every where eles is fine we basicly went from carby thru every point in the fuel line. whats my options.

Yeah there is supposed to be a mesh filter in there. It must be blocked up with the crud. You could try blasting the blockage out by reverse flushing the tank, or like you said remove it and rely on the fuel filter.

yeah i try a air compressor To blast the Crud out from the fuel outlet on the bottom of the tank no Workys. The fuel tanks were never fit with a one way valve were they???

while the tank is out now i can fit my new fuel sender unti too woohoo. Ohh yeah when i changed the oil today i found it was fitted With a Magnetic Sump plug and there was What looked to me like little fragments of the piston casing unsure realy but thats what they looked like.

more likely to be bits of synchro facing.... it's not unusual to find bits like that, but not every oil change

not good, but normal - we'd all prefer not to find bits of engine and gearbox stuck to our sump plug, but that's life

put up a nice clear close-up photo of the bits if you still have them, we can play "identify this random bit of metal"

Some of the fuel tanks have a small gauze filter inside them. They are pushed over the end of the inlet pipe. You may blow it of if you put enough air pressure on it.

Not sure about the LH tanks.. can't you put your (small) hand in through the fuel gauge sender hole and clean or remove the gauze?
but on a RH S tank (no hand access) the easiest way I know to fix it if blocked is tap a twist drill into it, break the gauze, then run a filter on the pump instead.

yeah im looking at setting it up this way after drilling out the hole..
Small clear Cheapy throw away type filter ( http://www.minisport.com.au/prod440.htm )Then facet Stye fuel pump ( http://www.minisport.com.au/prod587.htm ) im running a 32/36 weber i think.
then in the engine Bay a fuel pressure regulator and filter ( http://www.minisport.com.au/prod797.htm )
I think this will be the best way to go Apart from giving the tank a good old flush out as well Any one got any good products for cleaning this tank out? Ohh yeah I tryed putting 45psi thru the outlet hole at the bottom of the tank Nothing happend.
