Does anyone know what size sandblasting cabinet would be needed to do 13" wheels in. Also availablility in Brisbane?. There seems to be plenty around on ebay etc. but they look like they would struggle to fit a 13" wheel in. |

I've cleaned up wheels in my sandblaster cabinet, I picked up the 630x530x480mm version which was perfect around the garage and has worked as hard as a kings cross escort for the last 18 months... However....fitting a 13 inch wheel in and being able to blast it easily is a different matter. Although you can fit it in the cabinet, the amount of room it takes up in all directions as a round wheel makes it very difficult to blast consistently all over.. I managed to blast my 10 inch wheels up as well as a neighbor's 12 inch wheels as well, but found it much more expedient to use paint stripper on the paint, getting rid of the bulk of the old coats before throwing it in the booth. I then used the blaster to reallg get down into the joint and to even the texture up all over. So the blasting cabinets of this size aren't really up to the job of doing wheels easily, although they are just capable if you give it a good go. |

Yeah I have a large number of wheels I want to blast to bare metal so need something big enough to do them easily. Alternately if anyone knows a good cheap blaster in the Brisbane area. |

You could always make your own  A bit of ply, lots of sikaflex and some big industrial gloves
On a side note, can anyone suggest a good gun to buy. I have one of the cheap ones and it is rubbish, the grit delivery is very intermittent no matter how I use it... |

It's all in the air dryer and the blasted junk that drops back into the grit. No matter how good the gun is, condensation from the compressed air turns the sand to mud across the pressure drop at the outlet. Getting a gun without a mixing manifold before the nozzle helps with this unless you have a large high quality air dryer.. Keeping the junk out of the sand is another matter. I block the nozzle with a gloved finger every now and then while I'm working, press the trigger and blow the sand back out of the pick up pipe. This clears the junk and gets you going again. |

I can vouch for these guys. Lewis & Sons Powder Coating Pty Ltd 156 Riverside Pl, Morningside I got my subframes blasted and powder coated which only cost $165 ea. I recon they'll blast the wheels cheaper than what it'll cost to you to buy a cabinet |
