Being a 74 it will be hit with duty at 10% and GST on top of that, you will be hit with some fees for AQIS and customs inspections and maybe a fee to the Patricks rip of fund called steam cleaning. you will need to have your import approval whic you should have before the vehicle leaves the country of origin and your shipping documents from where ever it was sent from, and if you are to slow to do all this you will then get hit with storage fees. Get a good customs agent as soon as you are informed of the cars intended arrival and even if they charge you a couple of hundred it is money well spent |

there is no 30 year rule and has not been for quite a number of years, its a standard rule of 72 for no duty, you can check on the customs site if you like but I have done it for a living for the last 10 years or so and he will be charged duty on a 74 car |

If this is the case the rule has changed in the last two years. I imported a 75 Corona in Oct 2006 and customs attempted to charge me duty and GST. I pointed out to the freight forwarder that I did not need to pay duty and was issued an adjustment invoice. I still have the paperwork. Also on p6 of this doccument: http://www.customs.gov.au/webdata/resou ... vOwnMV.pdf ... it says: Passenger vehicles of an age 30 years or more (vehicles 30 years old or more are subject to GST only) Customs Duty = None GST = 10% LCT: May apply If it has changed, the website is not up to date. I cannot find anything about a 72 rule? Cheers, |

dont forget about customs clearance & melbourne ports charges plus transport from the port or where you agent is (which is about $1000 for melbourne plus you have to pay GST on the shipping charges( from the country you brought it from) also the import approval takes 4 weeks at least to get before the car can leave the country so you may have to pay storage(which is about 100 pounds a week in the UK) |
