Hey guys.. New to the forums, bought a mini + shell a few weeks ago and im currently restoring the shell.

I have located majority of the rust in the sills etc and have replacement panels for them, but have now ran into a problem regarding the door steps. It looks a bit too difficult to try and make up new peices since the part is soo small and i wanna do this right without having to bog them.

Has anyone had luck with replacing the door step from ordering ones from the UK minis. They have 3 different types and im unsure to whether they'd fit.

My other idea was to cut out the peices needed from a scrap shell.

Any suggestions? Or anyone in WA with a scrap shell??

welcome to ausmini mate!

hope the project comes along nicely!

my idea would be to give steve at brickworx racing here in adelaide a call.

he is getting out of minis but still has many shells and frontcuts so he would be able to point you in teh right direction.

pm brickworx on here or www.brickworx.com.au

don't bother calling brickworx, his stuff is all rover, and if you've got an aussie mini, it's different.

Aussie minis are the same as UK MK1, UK MK2 are different in a few areas, MK3 onwards are basically different shells altogether

I replaced (part of) my door step with one from an aussie clubman that was otherwise stuffed.

some pictures here -> http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=35136&highlight=rust

the WA mini scene seems to support people very well, so someone would help you with donor parts if you join their club

hi
i had this done three years ago.
i got the piece i needed from link automotive in vic.. just off a unsed shell..and then had a panle beater cut the rusted one off and replace it with the new one.
they did a great job..took all the paint off the drivers door and stirped the paint all the way back to the rear window..so all the paint would match...i was happy...cost me $1000 plus a slab of crownys...the did the whole door step too.

Thanks for the quick replies guys.

That is some good detail work simon. I'll be looking at doin similar but not soo extensive. Those pics will definately come in handy.

So if our clubmans are similar to the UK Mk1 minis, would we be able to use their mk1 or clubman door step repair panels.
They look like this. ---> http://www.minispares.com/images/products/200/MS28R.jpg

If anyone from WA has some spare scrap shells.. let me know or ill come looking for you!!

a UK clubman is a MK3 shell, the door step is not the same as a UK MK1, therefore not the same as ours. The one you linked is like ours (curved at where it meets the A pillar - bit small tho)
