Post subject: | HOW-TO - Request - Brake Pads |
I know it's a simple one, but I can honestly say with all the cars I have owned, I have never had one long enough to need change the brake pads. Is there any person with some spare time on here willing to put up a How-To on brake pad changes ? I will be doing it this arvo either way, I have a guide already, but it might be handy for others in the future. I don't want to do it myself...as I might end up doing it complete wrong ![]() |

Loosen wheel nuts, Jack up Put jack stands under car Lower jack onto jack stands Remove wheels, Remove pad pins Using two large screwdrivers slide caliper pistons back into calipers Remove old pads Fit new pads, transfering any rattle shims from the old pads Refit pins Refit wheels Tighten wheel nuts Lower back onto ground Recheck wheel nuts Pump brake pedal to repressure the system Check brake fluid level in master cylinder Drive away. What he said ^^^ Remove and replace ONE pad at a time- if you take both out together, one piston can get moved out by the fluid when you are pushing the other back in. Inspect those split pins, if any doubt fit NEW ones. And bend both sides back. I lost a pad recently whilst driving... = NO brakes. Scary stuff. ![]() |
