I would take the speedo to an instrument repairer and get them to check it over. It may just need a good grease with fresh grease. Mine was doing something similar a while ago. I got my speedo reconditioned by a local bloke and it has been working fine ever since. |

First place I would look is the speedo cable. If it starts binding it will give you those symptoms. If you screw it off the back of the speedo you should be able to extract the inner cable and check it. It will probably be greasy. If it shows signs of rubbing or if any of the strands are broken it is probably toast. If it looks OK give it a light coat of Moly and put it back in and see if that cures your problem. Pete |

Mine's the same, despite new cable - one of those jobs for "one day". ![]() I have no tacho so tend to drive by "noise". ![]() |

That's nothing to worry about, the speedo is simply showing you that your doing 110km/hr plus or minus 10 km/hr. At least it's not lying like a lot of speedo's do... |

Great idea!! ![]() It may just need a good grease with fresh grease....I doubt it, the cable might need greasing...but, the instrument itself only needs a very small amount of moly grease. It's 30 years since I last pulled the speedo on my Clubman. I can't remember it in detail. Don't remember it being especially difficult. From memory the front nacelle is held on by clips so it just pulls off and the gauge cluster is held on by self tappers. There is a large electrical connector for the main wiring harness and one or two separate wires for the tach. Hopefully someone will correct me if any of this is wrong. Pete |

If you prefer to pull the whole lot out of the car, they mount on a bracket attached with 4 nuts on the firewall. |

A Mini with a 3.4 diff and 10" wheels should do about 25-26kmh per 1000 revs so 3000 is only 75kmh if your tacho is reading correctly. Most Clubbies have a diff lower than 3.4 so you should be on the right side of the law. Pete |
