I fit central locking to my mini for less than $40. It's a fiddly job but do-able. |

am I cynical or what......... no thats $70 to connect the car alarm to already existing central locking.. (or thats how i understand it anyway), i intend to buy a kit from Brickworx.. if im getting an alarm installed might as well go the whole hog... |

In my openion car alarms are the cause of a lot of problems in cars. Get a Rotty instead and chain him near the driver's door. |

Why is this so? A good car alarm wired in correctly shouldn't cause any problems 
Or are you talking about a dodgy installation? I have had a dodgy installation before. When I inspected the work I was not happy, they used the super cheap crimp connectors and made a huge mess of my wiring loom...

I get cars coming in too often with problems like not starting due to voltage drops caused by the weak wires and components used in these systems. They will work Ok if every circuit they interrupt was run through a relay which can carry enough current. I just disconnect them and put them in the bin . where most of them belong. They only keep the honest ones out. Dodgey installations too as most times they ar not installed by a professional Auto Electrician. There are many simple ways one can immobilize a car. The simpler ways are more effective as there are no Manuals for them and how to get around them. I do not give my secrets away on this one. Sorry guys. |

I had an alarm in mine, years ago, I tossed it when it started arming itself whilst driving dow the freeway. 
I agree with CM, simple immobilisers are better. And they don't flatten your battery when parked for a week or two. |

A home made immobiliser is the best way to go IMHO. You can hide a switch anywhere inside or outside the car. Or both! But stopping f/wits from vandalising and/or damaging your car to gain entry is unavoidable. 
But atleast with an alarm it will help in scaring them off quicker. |

yeah the mongoose looks good.. but i know more people that install the dynamco.. so im leaning towards that atm.. had a guy quote me $650 installed with central locking as well |
