ausmini :: View topic - mini storage, what have people done?

I am currently trying to work out the best way to store my minis in my shed and the best idea the family and I have come up with is a sort of giant rack to store a row of cars in then park more minis below. The rack won't be a problem to make as dad and my little brother are qualified welders and I have access to the right steel for the job, I have also seen a similar system in a magazine used by a scotish mini collector. My only problem is how to get the cars up there? They will be up there for a long time (years) so once up there I won't have to get them down for a while.

Any other ideas are welcome as I will need some shed space for a new toy I hope to be buying sometime in the early part of the new year after a couple of other cars have left the property.

I also wish everyone on ausmini a merry christmas and a happy and safe new year.

I would make ramps that hinge at the back, you winch the car up the ramp and then lock the car to the ramp. Then winch the front of the ramp up and lock it in place. You would need a serious winch though! Or you could get some pallet racking and a forklift! Pallet racking is actually a good starting point for any plan that you come up with. I have a car hanging from the roof of my garage, but it is a bare chassis of a formula vee.

I think a fork lift is the best option, and I do have access to one. I'll have to find out if I can get it in the shed first before bringing it home however.

Do you have the lie on your land to build a mezzanine that could be accessed by a ramp If its for relatively long term storage and you are on the land....then you should do something about vermin control for the shed. Rats and mice etc will eat rubber etc birds can shat on paint and ruin your day...

In my day dreaming I've thought of 1... a hoist - they are only about $3000 new so s/h should be cheaper. That way you could store one on the hoist and park one under. An extention of that idea is 2... use the hoist to lift the car slightly higher than a mezzanine floor and have some ramps that can be put in place to connect the mezzanine floor out and under the wheels of the car up on the hoist - lower the car onto the horizontal ramp and roll the car onto the mezzanine floor. Have the foor big enough to manouver a couple or 3 cars around

we have just put a mini panel van on our shed roof. We lent a ladder against the shed and pushed it up the ladder. It had no subframes and was really a bear shell though Brenton P.S Never stick you arm between the rungs of the lader trying to hold some of the weight off the ladder then have them push it . i know

Thanks for the help everyone. Ramps or a fork lift seem to be the best ideas so far. I guess which one I go with will be decided when I find out if a fork lift will fit in the shed.
