I'm ashamed to admit this, but I have never ever been able to find a number stamped into the rear bonnet drain channel, can anyone take a photo of one to show me where it is? I've looked for it on my car, but can't find one, I've looked on other cars I've had as well, and never found one on them either ![]() thanks in advance! |

I thought the numbers in the gutter were only found on rover mini's and above the master cylinders |

It is the second series of Australian made Minis that have the number in the gutter. The Mk2 S, the K, the Morris Mini 1100 (the poverty K) and the vans. These are the cars that have the full body number including prefix stamped on the radiator shoud panel. |

To narrow it down, I believe it will be found in the 6 inches of drain channel between the passenger bonnet hinge and the passenger window spray nozzle. Very easy to miss as they are light stmapings (perhaps by hand and all at once in a jig, so little penetration) and are easily filled in by the primer/fillerand paint |

I had to 'bite the bullet' and scrape the paint back to bare metal to reveal mine (10/70 MK II S). As already said, very light stamping from the top so not 'feelable' from below. |

hmmmm, very light stampings hey, I don't really want to scrape the paint off, but I'd love to know what's under there - but stamped before the car went through the paint shop, yeah? what are the actual numbers, how do they relate to the body and car numbers? |

It should be mentioned it's only from mid '69 on. Your mk2 should have it Simon.... |

Interesting - from the research I have done on Mk2 S's, I had thought the car number was only stamped on the drain channel on early Mk2's. . .from somewhere around Feb/March 1970, they switched to stamping this number on the bulkhead behind the master cylinders. . .ALL of the genuine cars I've looked at have had the chassis number (car number plus 500-odd) stamped on the radiator shroud. |

According to the Mini Clubman Series Parts Catalogue (PUB 1052) the Body Cum No. (anyone know what Cum stands for, and keep it nice?) is stamped on the bulkhead drain channel RHS - see below: ![]() Brenton - yours should be M2 over 23, then body cum no. starting from 001. The usual disclaimer that BLMC parts catalogues have numerous errors. |

'cum' would usually mean 'cumulative' - but who knows so the drain channel number would be the same as on the firewall? |

The usual disclaimer that BLMC parts catalogues have numerous errors. Yeah Mine has the m2 23 xxx very clearly stamped on the rear firewall near M/cylinders... i was just curious as to whether or not it would have it in the drain channel?? I thought all cars had it stamped behind there - but now i know otherwise ![]() Brenton |
