Post subject:  Oil filter for 97 Mayfair SPi

hi there
I am going to do a oil/filter change over the next few weeks and the last couple of times i have ordered oil filters I have received the wrong ones (all the way from the UK too!!)

Would anyone know what oil filter is needed for a 1997 Automatic Rover mini mayfair with Single point injection?

And where to get it from?
The mechanic who did it last time has left town :(

thanks heaps

Go to repco and tell the the make and model of your car and they will get you the right one...
Alternatively get the part number off your old filter and quote that for them as well.

Repco or similar should stock them, after all they do supply all of the mechanics...

When i had my Clubman, it had a 1996 SPI motor fitted, i was buying oil filters of the shelf at Mini spares in Sydney, they could send one/some to you

02 9774 3366

They reopen on the 5th of January.

Are they different filters to the usual Camry V6 oil filters used on minis?

GFE104 cartridge type- according to Minispares, same as all Mini automatics.
http://www.minispares.com/Product.aspx? ... MENT%20A...

Karcraft carries it as a Coopers GP236/1.

Just to point out, automatics use a different filter to a manual. You cannot use a spin on filter on an auto.
I doubt that any Repco or Supercheap would have one. You need to go to a Mini expert.

I have given up on the local spare parts stores for filters for my cars. They don't stock them and they need to wait to get them in a monthly order from Ryco.
I buy my filters from Karcraft and if I order before 3pm they will arrive the next day. (I am sure that other Mini specialists would be able do the same!)

Yeah, pretty much what morris said, i was just gonna have a search and if need be ring up ryco themselves to get a part number for deb (dribble). Supercheap, Repco etc carry only whats popular, theres only like 2 kinds of cartridge filter in supercheap's on shelf stock, everything else must be ordered in, however, if the local staff know their suppliers, i can order a filter and have it in store the next day as a guarantee.

But to save all the mucking round, just go to a mini expert

The Ryco number is R2281P for the Matic.

The Ryco cross reference shows the Rover GFE104 being the same as the Ryco R236P.
So the Rover takes a different filter to the Matic?

Last time i checked with Ryco, minis from 61-65 needed a R2180P filter, 66-74 needed a R2200P, and 75-84 needed the Z418. I think i might just ring them tomorrow and get it straight from the horses mouth so to speak.

The R2180P is the Pommy cartridge.
The R2200P is the Aussie cartridge.
The Z418 is the spin on.
None of these fit an auto.
