g;day all just wondering how to determine the right needle for your carba s mine has the wrong one in there at the moment as the timing is right but still back fires out carby no matter how much we muck around with the mixture. just wondering what to determine some one told me to go back to what it came out with standard but my engine has a bigger carb cam head so would this change that?.....any help appreciated thanks fellas |

Get thee to a dyno with an operator that speaks SU and has needles- it's the only proper way really when it's miles out. |

vizard makes some suggestions in the big yellow book - assuming this is for your K, and you've put an 1.5" carb on it, with some extractors and a mild cam & a bit of head work, Vizard suggests a Red spring and E3 or #7 needle - it's just a matter of ringing SU Midel and getting them to send some bits. If the carb hasn't been rebuilt, then you're best off getting a rebuild kit, and doing the whole lot - all the gaskets, needle & seat, jet, shaft & butterfly, etc. etc. but it's guess work unless you have access to at least a colourtune or gas analyser, and then a dyno edit: here's a link to all of Vizard's suggested 1098 needles in my needle database thingy - http://www.morrismini.com/SUNeedlesV2.aspx?linklist=7;AN;BQ;E3;H6;M1; the bigger the numbers for each station, the leaner the needle - if it doesn't show a chart, click "show chart" at the top |
