Hi guys, I currently have the smell of oily fumes coming through the cabin even with the windows are fully open. The sound deadening on the firewall has been removed and there are some holes open where wires come through it. - Where is the oil coming from? Could it be from my ramflo filter? I have no crankcase vents, they are all plumbed back into the filter and the charcoal canister - How can I seal off the holes in the firewall? Glue over some foam? The trimmer who did my interior used some sort of green foam under the carpet, where can I get that? hg. |

Put a breather and a manifold PCV valve (or plumb to vac port on carby) on it if you want to stop smells.... the way you have it now is not correct. |

Do charcoal cannisters actually truthfully do anything? I know they are for pollution control etc but are they genuinely effective? (I have no opinion on this coz i dont know much about them - hence the question) |

Charcoal cannisters only collect petrol fumes - they do work but the charcoal needs to be replaced or 'reactivated' As reactivating involves heat I'd be careful about using naked flames

IMO about as useful as a flyscreen door in a submarine 
Maybe when new, and (when fitted) working in partnership with the redoubtable air pump, air injection and gulp valve. Now there's a cool setup assuming your'e not in a hurry to get anywhere.............. |

You are always likely to get some oil fumes in the engine bay. Best way is to stop the fumes coming in through the firewall. I have used silicone to seal holes with wires going through them in the past. Not as neat as a grommet but seems to work fine. You won't believe the reduction in cabin noise once you get the firewall sealed up. Pete |

I think all minis smell at some time. Blocking any holes in the firewall will help a lot, flashtack from bunnings will do this really well and is good sound deadening too. Are your gear selector seal/s leaking onto the exhaust? If all else fails, hold your breath. |
