Post subject:  electrics questions?
for my rebuild i intend to install an electric fuel pump, how do these work with no cpu or ems and are they easy to install? will i need a larger ampage alternator for a 4 speaker stereo system? also what are the disadvantages for electronic dizzies?

with an electric fuel pump you just need to run a fused power (12v) from the ignition preferably and ground it somewhere. i just grounded mine on the subframe like so. its mounted to a rubber exhaust mount - lines up perfectly with the holes. note i havent hooked up the power in this photo.

its pretty much all dependant on the size of the stereo you looking at putting in. 4 speakers run off your head deck will be fine on the stock electrics. throw in splits a sub and amps, then you really should be looking at a quality battery and an uprated alternator. convertable mini is the man to talk to he has the uprated alternators and electronic kits for dizzys - do a search on electronic distributors on here, theres plenty of info about them

Hi Leighton

I run a stereo with 2 speakers powered by the headdeck and two powered by an amp. It is powered fine by the standard alternator, however the alternator was rebuilt and i have a decent battery.

As for the fuel pump it doesn't need a cpu ems etc because they run of switched (controlled by the ignition) 12v power. Meaning when the car is in the ignition position, you will hear the pump start ticking away even before the car starts and it will continue to run at a constant rate until the switch is turned off. Depending on the pressure ratting etc of the pump you can run a pressure regulator, however it shouldn't be necessary.

As for the disadvantage of electronic dizzies..... there are none really.

You can buy an expensive unit that is designed to for this purpose such as the 123ignition systems. These allow you to choose from a range of advance curves to suit your motor.

You can buy one of these conversion kits from Tony which is what i'm thinking about doing. It's a lot cheaper and from what I understand will follow the advance curve that they have been set to.
