G'Day all, I have had my mini transported from Perth to Townsville and I am trying to identify a part on my mini as it needs to be replaced to stop an oil leak. I have taken the part to many places in Townsville to get it identified and replaced but nobody seems to stock it or have any ideas. The part is on the exterior of the engine block underneath the exhaust (where it attaches to the engine). There is a plate/cover there and it is held on with two bolts. On those two bolts there is a metal washer with a rubber piece attached to the washer. The rubber on the washer on my mini has been ripped and torn and is the source of the oil leaking onto my garage floor. What is the metal washer with the rubber piece called ? so I can go to Repco or another auto place and purchase a few. The engine is in a clubbie and its a 998 with a fairly new rebuild. (around 250km since rebuild) Any constructive info welcomed. |

There called inspection plates, you remove them to get to the cam followers, as for the rubber on the bolt, you will have to get one from a mini specailist supplier, maybe Matt Read, he's on the forum & in Brisbane. Doogie |

Most mini parts places should have them.... 2 individual, each held on with 1 bolt... yeah? I think last time I needed to replace one, I cut a little piece of fuel line and used that... unless you want to replace the large rubber seal around the plate as well (maybe a good idea) be careful not to dislodge the plate from the block, as re-sealing them can be a pain |

I have used the rocker cover bolt seals for an ea/eb falcon, get them at any repco sprints or motor traders. |

To attain a proper seal on the covers requires a special washer that fits over a rubber seal and this is dependant on the type of cover. There is also a fibre washer used on another variant of cover. Check out the catalogue from John Schmidt to get the correct part numbers. |
