Racing greats at 2009 Phillip Island Classic - March 13, 14, 15. Racing greats from Formula One, V8 Supercars and the Carrera Cup will be at the 2009 Phillip Island Classic Historic race meeting from March 13-15 to open the 40th anniversary celebrations of Formula Ford racing in Australia. Formula Ford began in the UK in 1967, with the first championship in 1968 won by Australia’s Tim Schenken. The 50th anniversary of the Mini and the Elfin car and the 100th anniversary of Morgan are also being celebrated at the 2009 Phillip Island Classic, which again has major sponsorship from Shannons and the VACC, with major displays of each marque featured at the meeting. The meeting also celebrates the 20th anniversary of racing at the circuit conducted by the Victorian Historic Racing Register, under whose guidance the Phillip Island Classic has grown to become the largest historic race meeting of its type in the Southern Hemisphere, with more than 500 touring, sports and racing cars spanning seven decades taking part in 2009. The Victorian Mini Club Inc has assisted the VHRR in the running of this fabulous meeting since 1996. Mini Club member and Clerk of Course Mike Holloway has arranged for a special Classic Mini Regularity Event, allowing up to 60 Mini drivers the opportunity to experience the picturesque circuit and the great atmosphere of this event. Mike chose a regularity rather than a race in order to allow club members with L2S licences to get on the track on this occasion. The Classic Mini competitors will have one practice on Saturday, and one event on Sunday, and this has enabled the cost to be kept down to $155. Of course there are also Mini Competitors in the Historic Touring Car Class, and they will be on the track for one practice and three races across the three days. Further opportunities to see Minis close up will be found at the huge car club display – last year there were 47 clubs and over 300 cars – called the Shannons Walk. Further inquiries can be made to 03 9390 2191, or [email protected] Entry forms and supplementary regulations can be found at the VMCI website http://www.mini.org.au, and entry forms and heaps of pictures of past events can be found by visiting http://www.vhrr.com. |

"Further opportunities to see Minis close up will be found at the huge car club display" That'll be where my mini is! Wish I was on the track though. Anyway, I'll be waving the flags on 1.1 again. It's a great weekend. If anyone wants to help out as an official (you don't need prior experience) contact the VMCI, or send me a PM and I will put you in touch with the organisers. Many hands make light work and if this is work then bring it on! You wont get any closer to the action unless your in a car. |

Sent my entry off a few weeks ago, Grp N & Regularity.... PI Historics is one of the best Historic events in Australia, Plenty of guys bring cars from all over the world and is fast becoming and event that will be harder and harder to get an entry in the future...... Event walking around the car park is great, So many classic cars just in the carpark, let alone the racing.... |

I let work get the best of me last year, but this year I will make sure I go again... It's an amazing weekend. You cannot believe the number of classics that are there. Wandering through the pits as the owners try to keep them in top form is an eye opener as well. |

ummmm with a regularity you could have a bunch of cars out there..especially if you started them half way round (say).....regularity should not be concerned about a standing start track density (per se)....60? shmickty!! get em out there guys ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
