The 2 blade fan is basically half of a 4 blade fan. The reason for only using 2 of the blades is that the racing mini is mostly driven at high speeds. At high speeds, a 2 blade fan allows more air to pass thru the radiator as it is forced thru the grill. When stopped, this racing mini will overheat easier.

If the racing mini was to use a 16 or 12 blade fan, the air would actually be blocked by the blades at racing speeds, essentialy making the engine run hotter.

If you do alot of city/slow driving/peak hour crawls, the 12 or 16 blade fan is your best bet. On country roads at high speed, especially in summer, a 4 blade fan is better.

A mini's fan only uses up about 3/4 of a horsepower, so less blades wont really affect the power.

I hope you can understand this, I cant think of a better way to describe it....

I think the accepted dogma is that the multi blade plastic one is better shaped allowing better airflow to the radiator

But, the plastic one IS noiser than the 16 bladed metal one. Plastic ones also do fling blades off.
Whatever.. I run one of each... 8)

I would use the Tropical fan that was availavle on export minis to hot climates.

Don't use the white plastic fan. These are the ones that have a tendancy to explode.

If you only have the yellow 16 blade fan or the yellow plastic I'd use the plastic.

Yeap I have a Plastic one on mine and now troubles.

I have seen the 4 Blade Rally type fan crack and go through the rad.

Nasty surprise when you have to do a rad and a fan.
