1: How often should the dashpots on SU carby's(twin) need topping up ?
2: How do you adjust the clutch to get more pedal ?

1. Not often with HS2 or HS4, it can't go anywhere. I check it once a year.
2. Loosen the locknut on the little bolt behind the clutch arm. Screwing the bolt in gives more freeplay at the pedal, screwing it out gives less.
I aim for about 20mm slack at the pedal...

With the clutch adjustment, do not forget to release the stop nut and lock nut (the 2 big nuts) on the throw out bearing carrier before making the adjustment. After your happy, reset the nuts according to the workshop manual.

OK thanks guys,
I've topped up the carby's twice in about 500 miles, they are fairly new 1 1/2" (less than a year), I will see how they go, it might be just me.
I will try to adjust the clucth over the next few days, It clunks a bit when I put it into 1st and reverse sometimes.
By the way steve it's still running sweet as :D .

Good to hear, and so it should when they're built right . . . . I heard it ran well on the trip south. Have you given it the service yet, oil and filter? Probably time to check the tappets, adjust the clutch, grease and change the fuel filter too. I was going to do this for Andre but he sold it . . .

Glad you're enjoying it.

I have done 1400 miles in it , have changed the oil and oil filter twice given it some grease but still have to do the tappets and clutch and fuel filter. I'm as happy as a pig in ...well you know where I'm going. I couldn't be happier with it. A credit to the previous owner and mechanic.

good to see ur going out mini gatherings i bet its good fun cruising around those ranges.

hey philz when u were looking at picking up the car did u have a look at QRAIL car frieght at all or any other car frieght companys? im looking at maybe getting this mini from inisifall to rocky and it looks like hiring a trailer will cost a bit more than what i think it might cost from Qrail.

No, we wanted to make a trip of it. But we did get a quote to get a car from Melbourne to Brisbane by road. It was around $1500 plus GST and it had to be in roadworthy condition ,ie: drivable and working brakes. Also I had arrange pickup and delivery to their depot.
There is probably better ones out there but after that we thouhgt stuffit we will drive it home :D , it was fun and we got to meet a lot of people, like yourself.

With SU's I like to take the piston out and spray the carb body, piston and dashpot cover with carb/throttlebody cleaner each time I change the engine oil. I then refil the oil in the carb.

The difference between men and boys is the price of their toys, if your prepared to put in the time and effort, and you think $1200 is a reasonable price, then go for it.

All the basics are there, and if you have access to the knowledge and finances, and it will probably cost you in the vacintity of another $5,000 to get if on the road in a reasonable condition, then good luck.
