Okay, I bought these mirrors off TradeMe, NZ's Ebay, a while ago and bolted them onto the Clubman.

RUST! After three months of sitting in the driveway. No driving (car's having body repairs), just sitting there. So they've gone in the bin without ever being used. They looked okay when I bought them, but the chrome is of an abysmal standard.

Just wanted to sound off and get it off my chest.

Was it a private sale or from a merchant??

If it was a shop/merchant let everyone know who to avoid!

Private trader. I've seen similar mirrors for sale since, and assume they're just as bad, probably cheap chinese copies. I'll replace them with expensive ones from Minispares or someone I can return them to if they start to rust. To be fair to the guy who sold them to me, he probably didn't know they're crap.

No, typically unbranded stuff. I paid about NZ$60 for them, so perhaps a cheap lesson learnt by me.

AH.... this be the reason why I dried my mini (the first and only driving one) with a chamois every rainy night when I parked it in the garage.

No entirely correct......Japanese aftermarket chrome is some of the best. Concourse correct mirrors for early mustangs cost about $90 each....and they come from Japan. Mine have been on my car for 5 years.....not a mark on them. And they live outside 100% of the time.

3 parts molasses, 1 part warm water will also do it......but it will come back. Just remember: chrome is porous to some degree.

Yeah, I figure if I'm going to get ones I'm not always checking for rust all the time, I'll have to shell out a little more. Ya gets what ya pays for, etc etc. But I've seen a few of these mirrors get snapped up, so there's a few people getting ripped off. I think I'll put mine on the auction site with a pic, just to warn people.
