Post subject:  Insurance costs for a mini

Hey all,

I'm looking at buying a mini, and was wondering what you guys pays for insurance and who you go through, tried searching but only got a million other posts about nothing.

I'm 21, the car I'm looking at atm has a 1275 taken out to 1400..I've tried a few of the online quotes but none are working, and as I'm just curious at the moment i do not wish to call them.

Recently looked into buying an rx7, but $2200 minimum for insurance with no mods i don't think so.

Cheers for the help
Cory

550 comprehensive NRMA....call around they will usually do it cheaper, and certain companies have a vintage option which is usually cheaper.

Probably good to advise your location, too - insurance costs vary with location as well as a million other variables!

sweet, so I'm looking at roughly 500 a year.

also, what sort of reliability will a 1400 engine have. i will need to be driving it everyday for work?

1400 is reliable, just keep the oil topped up to full (no not joking) and don't drive like you stole it.

Yeah sounds good, I'm after a car that will be fun to drive, and reasonably quick, but i mean i'm not looking for a racecar, just something that can keep up with traffic.

Dont need a 1400 to keep up with the traffic.
1310 does very well.

Very true, my 1310 was bloody fast, now my 1360 eats strokers too... 8)
My comment on oil level is because I have seen many engines with their bigend journals and rod bearings trashed, just because people let the oil get low. Then on sharp RH bends (roundabouts worst) the oil runs away from the pump pickup.
Bingo- no bearings... :!:

Gotta remember the age factor ....

21 is going to add a fair amount to the premium...... some compamies may not even give cover...

In my day the magic age for reduced premiums was 25 ......
( and when I got my CRX )
don't know anymore if there is a magic age..... I'm over the hill.......
