I have put new competition bump stops on the rear arms of my hydro 65 Deluxe. The sheet in the packet says that there needs to be a modification on the body seam so that "the bump stop must sit flat when compressed".

Is this true? Does it mean I have to get out the grinder and get into the seam? Could be I have bolted it in the wrong position!

You have to grab a pair of vice grips and bend the seam out (don't cut it.) otherwise after a few corners you will split the rubber in half as the body cuts into it.

<edit> just looked again and you're running hydro so you don't need to make any modification, it only applies when retrofitting to dry cars. Unless you have converted it to hydro.

You might be able to fold it by persuading it with a soft hammer. The seam cuts into the bump stop over time depending on how much load is placed on it.

I haven't folded mine as they are pretty cheaply replaced anyway, I didn't like the thought of taking a hammer to the body work after so much work.

I bent mine (hydro) just a little bit with some pliers - I had them out again recently and they haven't been hitting the seam

You have to bend this seam out about 45deg regardless whether it's dry or hydro.
But with hydro you don't need to drill and tap the arms or move the brake pipes.

I think you have them on the wrong side. The body seam is directly over the middle of the stop. If you swap them between L and R it will move the rubber bit more towards the centre of the car. You may find that you don't have to bend the seam at all. I didn't have to do this at all on my S.

The angled cutoff corner goes to the inside of the arm. Just checked mine to make sure.

This is a very obscure way of saying - you will have to modify the body of your car so the bump stops won't be cut into half in use! I hate the way instructions like that gloss over facts like this.

On mine I just cut the sharp excess hanging down and filed it smooth - took about an hour to do it properly.
