Can you paint a Mini with this sort of gear?


I want to paint the roof of our house and this would be the best to use and just wondering if I can justify its purchase by adding the Mini to the list

I dont see why not. Gravity fed guns are the best for cars though.

I am guessing thats an airless sprayer?

You would have to put some thought into what paint you used. I am not sure how Auto paint responds to airless spraying.

No the orange line is the air feed to the gun - the black is the paint feed. Basically the paint is forced to the gun by air pressure rather than suction or gravity getting the paint to the gun. In fact in one ad I've seen it described as 'gravity feed' guess it behaves like gravity feed.

I guess as long as you can get about 60psi and the correct tip for the type of paint then it should work OK..

You can paint with almost any gun, it is just a matter of practice to get the technique right.

A pressure pot is designed for house paint. It still needs an air compressor to push air through it. Why not just buy a cheap gun for $30-$60 and then use an air compressor. I would get the roof cleaned and preped then rent an airless for $130 a day.

I wouldn't. They are more for painting the side of a house or a fence. With the size of the 4 litre or 10 litre pot then you would have to use that amount of mixed paint/thinners (which you wouldn't).

However I don't see why you couldn't buy a 600ml pot to screw underneath the gun when painting a car. These are cheap. The setup you show would probably come with a 2mm or larger nozzle for acrylic house paint. You could use this for acrylic automotive paint (I use 1.8 - 2.0mm) but you would need something smaller for 2 pak (1.3mm).

I have seen these advertised and they are cheap, so why not?

Car paints are expensive, you get little to no wastage with a gravity gun but with that I would expect heaps of wastage. Also house paints don't have the same thinners as auto paints so I doubt that the seals, hoses, etc. would stand up to the abuse.

It is not airless, check where the hoses go...
This sort of pressure pot is commonly used in a production environment where you are painting things (like cabinets) for hours with the one colour.
Paint type doesn't matter, I have seen them used with both acrylics and enamels.

Gun may work OK on your car, it depends what nozzle it has.

You can run thinners through the pressure pot. I'm a proffessional painter and decorator and have used the pressure pot a few times. You could use it to spray the car but would have to buy a good tip which cost around $70.

try and find a CIG little Beaver unit or a Wagner HVLP sprayer both a cheap $70 and upwards and have adjustable paint settings. a friend has used a little beaver to do 5 cars with good results 6yrs later.

I have a CIG Little beaver unit - anyone want to buy it ? ( I now have a reasonably sized compressor so don't need it)
