g'day all my car is nearly complete and i am looking forward to registering it. the only thing is i have a problem i have bled and bled and bled my brakes so there is no air in them and also have adjusted my wheels several times but still do not have much pedal. my hand brake is also basically adjusted all the way and it doesnt hold my car and when driving doesnt lock up my wheels when handbrake is reefed on. does this mean worn brake pads? because the pads to me look ok but i am no mechanic how much meat on the pads is plent and how much is not enough time to replace?... thanks a lot fellas |

Don't forget the brake drums. Will give same symptoms as worn shoes. |

Your cables are probaly stretched,, new ones are cheap, $20 each from memory. But the tight ass way to do it s to tie a knot in the cable, undo it from the handbrake, pull the cable out thru the floor, tie a knot & reverse removal procedure. Doogie |

nice...... but what about my brakes they dont lock up when brakes slammed on? i have tried different drums incase they are worn but still same problem. how do you tell if your pads are worn? |

Do the wheel cylinders actually work? Could the pistons be stuck in the bores? |

Your brake shoes are worn out when you run out of adjustment. The best way to adjust the handbrake is to loosen the cables, re adjust the rear drums then readjust the cables. Still, with reasonable adjustment and bleeding your brakes should stop reasonably hard. NOTE - if you try to stop from 130 in a hurry, it wont happen with drums.

tried tying the cable in a knot but still not locking up back wheels.......and also still have adjustment in the wheels/pads i pull the hand brake up as hard as i can but can still move it when pushed although it is hard. |

Have you had the master cylinders replaced? Could be you have the clutch master cylinder on the brake side? Just a thought |

If the hand brake quadrants are in back to front the handle will be hard but the brakes will not be fully on. You need a knowledgeable person to look at the hardware - lots of guesses otherwise. Cheers, Ian |

if the master cylinder is indeed a clutch not a brake is it possible that this could be the problem? is there any difference between the clutch and brake cylinders? because i had one and not knowing weather it is a brake or clutch put it on?????? would this cause me not to have pedal or very little pedal and be able to push it to the floor????? |
