As some of you may remember i had oil pressure problems abit over a week ago. http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=49386 Yestrerday my engine was stripped down at david rosenthals workshop. We found out that the engine was minutes for either spinning a bearing or having the center main bearing overlap the other wedge the crank and break it. the center main bearing was spinning about 12mm cutting off the oil flow give me back my oil pressure. thats my interpretation of it. david may correct me but i think thats rite. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

That's putting it mildly. A brg or something is the box turned into metal filings and the box has had water and heaps of sludge in it at some stage. This all went thru a new pump and filter bypassed and blocked up the gallerys in the block. It caused the brgs to grab and release and chewed them to pieces. The thrusts surprisingly still had only .008" clearance. Still have to remove spacer plate behind oil pump and check. It looks like the plate has not been sealing and has been leaking on the pressure side. I have not done a auto/manual conversion like this and would appreciate any input to how it's supposed to be done correctly to make sure this is OK. Even with 40/70 oil it was struggling to get pressure. Wonder what surprises are in the box. |

David, we set up the plates with a gasket behind the plate & another gasket inbetween the plate & the pump, but we make the playes quite a firm fit in the hole & locktite around the edges & countersunk set screw through to hold the plate in firmly never had a drama with them in over 30 years |

Thanks for that Matt. This one is not a neat fit and it has not allowed the pump to sit flat. The pump end plate was worn only one one side. The spacer plate has not been drilled with half a hole on the back like the ones that Kevin does. Once I get it all cleaned up I will get some info from you blokes that have done them on how to do them properly and what to check on. I am not charging this lad to do the job , but just allowing to use my gear. He's keen, he worked all day in 45deg heat and pulled the eng out and stripped it down. I want to make sure that the whole job is done properly and as cheap as possible for him. |
