Post subject: | contessa centre caps |
Hi All, Have just got some Contessa wheels that I'm having restored however they are without centre caps. Are the caps available? If so what should they look like and where do I get them? Thanks Brian |

There has been heaps of people talking about re manufacturing them. I called ROH in South Australia and they told me they sold all their leftovers to MiniSport on South Rd, but that happened years ago and they're all sold out. I looked at getting some machined but cost was prohibitive and even looked at getting some injection moulding tooled up, but once again cost and volume was the major factor. I ended up getting some caps from the UK that fitted the holes from the rear. http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic ... highlight= |

I think there are some caps available in UK (not genuine ROH though) that will fit - but you must be careful to get the exact size. I used the old favourite spray can plastic lids, painted and stickers applied - people are amazed when I tell them what they were made from...... ![]() |

i am in the same boat as you. when i bought my contessas there was only one centre cap, which is a genuine ROH cap. Been looking around a bit bit haven't found anything. dad was in the process if making some by welding some ends into some steel tubing and then polishing them up all smooth, but its quite a bit of work. |

thanks team. Would really like to get a good image as to what the genuine article looks like. If i am go to go down the track of making something i would like it to be as close as to the real deal, right down to what the decal should display. Brian |

Here you go. ![]() Just remember that the hole in the centre of the Contessa's changed over the years. I have a set of Contessa on my Moke and three of the rims have different diameter centre holes. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I haven't got them to hand to photograph (buried somewhere in the garage) but the type used on the SS and LS do look a lot like a spray can lid with a Leyland "L" sticker in the centre. The poster in the middle of TME 15 shows this fairly clearly on the LS. |

I have a set of them that I can photograph tomorrow if you can't find yours . |

Post subject: | Cheap fix |
Heres a really cheap idea. ![]() ![]() ![]() I used the bottom of a coke can, nice shiney aluminium, nice concave shape and fits like a kok in a sok, and if you lose one, just get a can of drink and replace it. Held in shape with a small dob of silicon. Its a cheap fix that doesn't look that bad. ![]() ![]() ![]() Don't laugh if you havn't tried it........ ![]() ![]() ![]() |
