Can someone confirm when the plastic master cylinders were introduced on the Mk2. What should be on YG2S4 1381, engine 9FXEY54278? I belive it should have the Mk1 style booster, but not sure of which cyliders. I suspect Plastic clutch, but not sure of the brake. What brand plastic cylinders? Lockhead or PBR? |

I don't know about the Mk2 S, but FWIW my 6/70 K (same vintage) has the large circular plastic-reservoir Lockheed master cylinders on both brake and clutch. |

This May start a debate, However, over the years as some people would be aware, I have bought a lot of damaged and straight Cooper S Cars, And I remember some very early Mk2 Cooper S with Two tin tanks, Then the Plastic tank Master Cylinder was used for the clutch only, later on the Mk2 was fitted with two plastic tank Master cylinders, To the best of my memory the first Plastic tank master cylinders had BAI cast into the body of the master cylinder, I have misplaced some of my records so at this stage I cannot give acurate introduction dates of the various master cylinders, I will however keep looking for My records and advise these dates if I find them |

BAI was the parent company of AP, Borg & Beck and Lockheed. Could the timing of the introduction of the plastic tanks be related to an ADR? (hang on, that can't be right because Holdens still had solid tanks in the late 70s) ![]() |

![]() OK back onto plastic crappy brake cylinders then.. ![]() When did the Lockheed plastic cap cylinders give way to PBR (same type) or were these just aftermarket MCs? |
