I have been reading throw the search results on here and there doesn't seem to be a clean answer. I was about to buy a Swiftune Feather Light Flywheel and Backplate but now the AUD has gone so bad I don’t think I can justify the $874 + post.

So what are the current 'good' ones to get? Are the new ultralight ones any good?

It will most likely go in a 1293 with a Eaton supercharger, for manly track work.

we use the ulf and light backing ring and it does make a diiference

the only problem so far was one of the welds split so we welded it again and added 3 new welds

Have a read of Des Hammill's chapter on flywheels in his revamped book on tuning 1275 A series. There's some interesting info on the pros and cons of steel versus cast fywheels.

Ok well it’s been some time but I finally order a steal flywheel assembly. Ended up with getting one from MED engineering in England very nice to deal with and took less than a week to get here and no import duty When i spoke to Swiftune we agreed that there Feather Light Flywheel would have been to light for my application. (1kg lighter agen) Also got a AP Bonded clutch plate and a Grey dot diaphram.

According to the bathroom scales:
MED flywheel: 3.9kg
MED back plate: 1.4kg
MED clutch package: 6.9kg
STD one peace flywheel: 7.3kg
STD cooper S backing plate: 2.3kg
STD clutch package: 10.9kg
So the MED item is about 4kg lighter then STD item, should make the new motor a bit livelier

Please also install a Crutch/ Clutch, Flywheel Sheild to protect Youself also
Recently at the NB racing at Eastern Creek a fly wheel shattered
Box was shattered but the sheild did its job...Pic's some where on here

Yes the Flywheel Shield is going to be on the list of addition for this build I think.

When I get all my stuff back from getting machined next week I will post up the new build the flywheel is going in to. Quick hint it’s a fully worked 998: 100” over, wedged, bladed and nitrated crank, lightened rods, centre main strap, the big 12940 head with it converted to 11 stud, new blower with 15 ish psi of boost and a few more goody’s. So I think it will rev well.
