is a 1.5inch su and a hiff44 carby the same? do they have the same size Mounting Flange?

No, the HIF44 has 4 mounting holes, the 1 1/s su has 2, carbs are completely different, the IF in HIF means internal float.

The 44 in HIF44 is its size in millimetres.
It's less than half a mm from 1.75 inches.

yeah i just seen a 1 1/2 su and hope i could use that on the 1100 instead of the hif44 since im thinking about using it on a smaller engine instead of a 1275. it might work a bit better

an 1 1/2" SU can either be a HS4 or a HIF38 - the size is the same for these carbs - 1.5 inches, or 38mm - same thing

a 1 3/4" SU can either be a HS6, or a HIF44 - same again, 1.75" is 44mm

the mounting pattern for a HS6 is the same as a HIF44, they will mount to the same manifold

an 1100 with or without a supercharger will benefit from having a 1.75" carb fitted, doesn't matter whether it's a HS6 or a HIF44, as long as it has the needle to suit the engine, it will be superior to a 1.5" carb

If using Ben's SC12 supercharger kit, and HIF fits much better than an HS. You can fit and HS but you'll probably needs to get some spacers, I found some on a Rover 3500 that would work but found it was easier and looked cleaner just to use an HIF44.

I'd go the bigger HIF44 because 1, it's bigger :lol: and 2 if you want later on you can move the 'charger setup onto a 1275 quite well (with the correct needle fitted of course).

My HIF44 is actually from a Range Rover, although from what I've seen these had Stromberg carbies standard but there's possible a late model that had them. I also got an HIF44 from a motorbike off ebay. I used both to make a good one.

Saves me rebuilding an HS4 when i've got an as new HIF44 sitting on the shelf. :lol:
