I hate the rear view mirror - gets in my way, seems to create quite a blindspot at times!

am tempted to get something similar to this, and mount it on the top dash rail, but it's way too expensive!

does anyone have a cheaper alternative?

Tim.

Put your head DOWN at dash level and see what you can see out the rear of the mini  , you wont be able to see much except for your shoulder and the tops of 4WD's and trucks. IMO it's a bad idea.

When Driving my brother's mini I had no issue with the mirror getting in my way when looking out the front wondow. But I think I get what you mean, I couldnt see squat out the back through the rear view mirrow, I think because it was reflecting too low and any higher you just saw the inside of your roof. It would be interesting to know how a lower placed rear view mirror would affect what you see. In saying that the time I'm thinking of where I really had trouble was heading down hill and trying to merge lanes, all I could see was road.

Another approach maybe what I has in my old Healey Sprite. The mirror was clamped onto a stainless steel rod from the top of the windscreen to the top of the dash and you could move it up and down to get the optimum view. Worked a treat.

I tried that years ago with a suction cap mounted mirror from an earlier equivalent of supercheap , didn't matter where I tried it , nowhere was as good as the original location . Mounted low (4" above the dash) was nearly impossible to see out of . Main thing is to be aware of the blind spots and check them regularly .

Years ago with my first Mini I installed an extra wide (12 inches I think) mirror - this gave great visibility not only out the back but the two rear side windows as well. It was the same vertical height - just wider
