Jess had a new push button solenoid put in her car once when it was serviced. Didn't last very long.
Go get the lucas one without the button on it and it should last a lot longer. I've had mine in NAV for years now and no problems (touch wood)

oh really?? that sounds good to me, i might consider that for my other mini, why don't you need a solenoid, are they different?? do they fit in the same hole and stuff, with no mods??

They fit all a series flywheels AFAIK, and only need the mounting holes elongated to line up with the bolt holes for the mini starter. you can ditch the old solenoid as you use the one that is bolted to the back of the gemini starter.

Talk to either Heritage MG (where i got mine ready to bolt on brand new, including wiring instructions) or tony AKA convertiblemini on here, he is an auto sparky in jimboomba, and he mods them.

I'd go new as any second hand one off a gemmy will have done serious work by now :wink:

I still have the original solenoid, which was working when i took it out, however at the time of my resto, i saw these new style ones, and well liked the idea of starting the car inside the engine bay, and so i bought it. Pretty much had problems ever since with it tho. But it did come in handy tho.

Yeah, well, took her out for a drive yesterday, and well, almost created a fire, as the solenoid push button ignition got stuck on, and then began hit the engine, and kept creating sparks while I was driving. So well until I have time to fix her she is parked in the shed!! Anyone had similar problems with the push button starter solenoids?, it is my second one, ive gone through !!

is this the floor starter button if so mine shorted out on the exhaust we modified it to a modern solenoid in the engine bay and now have a button on the floor just to activate the solenoid

I think I have no choice but to change back to the original type I don't know why the push button ones don't last very long, but its not really good enough Oh and umm, yeah, i noticed that Jess had one when i was @ her party, she used it, then on the Sunshine Coast run, when pocking around the engine bay, i noticed the orignal type back in, and that it was new Does anyone know why the push button ones don't last for as long? and has anyone else had the same problems as me and Jess with them??
