As for the head, it depends on what it has, ie is it complete? or how complete? It also depends on the condition.

Does it have any cracks? You won't know this until it is crack tested obviously so remember this.

As for motor and gearbox, same stuff applies. Since you are talking head, motor and gearbox I'd assume its pretty complete.

It's probably worth somewhere between a "fwoaaaaar" and an eyebrow raised whistle. Then again if the reco work is minimal it could be worth a thumbs up.
I know a lot of people who have cooper s stuff they claim is worth *rubs thumb on ndex finger* but to me that amount is just laughable.

I love 'how much' threads. You never know how much crap answers you'll get! :D

motor and gearbox suitable for recondition - mk2 S box is under mk1 block, so condition not known, but when last driven felt ok, did a bearing or something - got a funny noise in it so got it home and replaced it with another motor he had.

Head is not cracked and needs a full overhaul, is complete though

(Carter is my brother hence why i know :) )

There only worth as much as someone is willing to pay. saying that they S engine parts are getting very hard to get these days so if its the part that is needed to finish a resto then people will pay a fortune. Ebay is a classic example.

How long is a peice of string?

MK1 AEG163 heads are prone to cracking, so check it throughly

As for the motor, unless you know it's history you never know, could have a busted crank, scored bore anything, but you have to get what you can these days.

I have a fully recoed MK1 head owes me nearly $1000

Also a fully rebuilt MK1 short motor owes me nearly $2000

The above prices don't include buying the motor & head

Hope it helps

Say anywhere from 0-500 for the head...

Say 0-2000 for a motor and gearbox that needs reco

You can be lucky and find them on the tip or in backyards!!

I'd probably buy it at that.

It is a risk, but these things are rear these days.

I recently paid abit more than that for a unknown 1275 (was 1100S block, late S head and GT gearbox). Apparantly it goes hard but you can't say 'till you strip, rebuild then drive it. It does have flat top pistons though which is odd for a 1275 I think and a slightly ported head. It also came with a lot of front end parts (engine was in a subframe). Hence the larger price I guess.

I'd say $1200 is a good price unless something is bad inside (eg. crank cracked).
You could part it out and get more than that.
