Post subject: | whats the worst noise your mini makes? |
Hey im a long time lover, first time buyer/driver and i must say driving a mini is FREAKIN AWSOME. The only thing is i get worried when my car makes noises so i try explain em and see if yaz can tell me what it may be: I accelerate in 1st 2nd or 3rd and if i drop my foot of the accelerator quickly the engine goes donk (i think its loose on the engine mount) and the stick kind of moves forward then back. I do the same thing again but as i release the accelerator at the same time there is this clicking noise sounds like its coming from behind the dash? Could it be the voltage regulator? Anywhoooo if ya guys have any ideas as to what they are it would be great to know? If not hope to catch yaz saturday and get some advice there. |

sounds like top engine steady rubbers - the 2 (for a clubbie) bars at the top of the motor going back to the firewall, do the engine mounts too cos they'll be steffed and it'll be rock steady |

look into your engine bay some roundies have one steady bar on the drivers side only others have another on that joins to the top of the thermostat housing |

only has one upper engine steady bar, and I shoulda guessed that cos the gearstick is going up and down. There's a big rubber on the back of the gearchange remote, and there's a good chance it's sheared off too - if you get more than 1/2" of movement... do all the rubbers, it'll make a huge difference - you'll hear the rest of the worrying noises it makes ![]() |

If it's a roundnose then it's probably one of the bushing's that has perished or a mount is loose. You can grab the engine by the rocker cover and try to rock it by hand to see where the slack is.. If it's a roundnose, there's a good chance that it's a remote change, which is different to a clubby in the fact that most are rod change (you lift up to get into reverse) and they have an extra engine stready bar near the radiator to the firewall.. |

My rear suspension is making a god-awful creaking noise at the moment. Maybe needs grease ?? Hopefully that's all!! |

In that case it's probably the mount at the back of the gearbox that attaches to your exhaust as well.. have a look underneath and you should see a bracket on your exhaust system just at the back of the motor down the very bottom.. Why your down there you can check what gearbox you have to be sure. If there's two rods coming from the back of the gearbox it's a rod change, and if there is a long casing that goes to your gearstick it's remote... |

I dislike the Cruching, grinding grating - whatever i get when changing down gears, probably 60% of the time now. It is horrible. And oneday a a mechanic whilst showing me a few mini things pulled out the gearbox, and it now gives out a very loud rattling whenever i ease of the accelerator, like going down hills or similar, it is much loud, and rubbish. Oh and the always rattly gearstick, i like it, usually, it drives my mate crazy, much crazy -really. thats all. |

Learn to double clutch |

Hmmm yeah thats why it is a problem, i does double clutch. Hahaha. And it has progressively got worse. But now i drive the magna everyday. So i reckon i can preserve the mini long enough, and drive it once a week, so that in a few years, it will still be serviceable, and i can get a complete fix on EVERYTHING. but hmm this isnt my thread, sorry ![]() |

i hate little noises inside the cabin area. just tiny loose things that rattle. harmless but annoying. i put about an inch thick of this crazy sound deadener and sound blocker on the firewall n stuff, the car is MUCH quieter now. |
