Pops has a bit of a BO problem........he stinks of fuel inside the cabin.....makes me feel ![]() I think the fuel pump is leaking....not sure..... Does this seem logical that the fuel pump might be leaking, since the car didn't move for 4 years....maybe the seals are gone in it..... The tank doesn't leak, carb seems fine...what else could it be.... ![]() |

It could be that the float bowl on the car is set incorrectly and not cutting off the fuel when the blown is full or the seat/piston thingy in the float bowl in worn and not sealing correctly. |

you just reminded me.....there is a noticeable "burble" out the exhaust on deceleration....close to back firing, but not that loud. |

Does the car smell after or while you have been driving?? Cause i had a similar issue where i had a leak next to the carby where the float sits was sticky and was not resetting and the fuel would leak out and the car ended up smelling after drving it around. |

i had the same problem after putting my fuel tank back in, my issues: 1. bolt at the bottom of the tank (for flushing) 2. the breather pipe, in the boot, that goes from the top of the tank to the bottom 3. hollow brass screw that connects the metal pipe from fuel pump to float bowl - tighten up hope this helps |

It only stinks while driving...and I can't seem to smell anything bad on the outside after I have driven....well maybe a little bit of that 'old car' smell..... No petrol leaking onto the ground, that's for sure.... I know jack s**t about SU carbs.....what do I have to check with the float bowl?!? edit: seems to be using more juice than what I thought a Mini would use.... ![]() |

Have you given the fuel system a good look over when the smell is bad? Looking for any obvious leaks starting with tank though to carb. Check the fuel filter, my daughters car had a blocked filter so bad the inlet was leaking due to the pressure build up ![]() |

Had a similar problem with the 850 when i first got it. Two things, the pipe from the fuel pump (mechanical) on the engine to the carb hose was loose, to the point that i could not tighten it up. Suspect the flare on the pipe was crushed and the nut was at the end of its thread. Fixed by changing engine. ![]() Also the vent pipe from the tank that runs down to a hole in the boot floor was stuffed and disconnected at the tank end, and not running through the hole in the floor. When i fixed this up, there was no more fuel smell. michael |
