Post subject:  recon engine for bmw twinkie

Hello, im reasonably new to minis
I've got one of matt's bmw conversion which i was going to put onto my mk2 cooper s engine, but have since decided to leave this engine as is and build a reliable purpose built engine.
i was thinking a fast road engine along the lines of reconed 1275 rebored to 1293cc with gearbox and 4 pin diff, uprated flywheel, clutch, water/oil/fuel pumps, ecu.
My question is do u guys know if anyone in vic (preferably) who will sell or build an engine/gearbox combo and prepare it for the bmw conversion?

Im also open to any suggestions the car will be used fairly regularly so i would like it to be reliable and put out about 110hp

Your best bet would probably be to send your stuff to Matt Read... as he has done all the machining before ... or speak to David Rosenthal who is here in Adelaide he might be able to help you with machining ...

Are you doing a 8 valve or 16 valve

Im in the early stages of doing a 8 valve onto a 1275A+ motor part of me still wants to make it 1380 but my sensible side says stay to 1275\1293..

There's no point paying all that freight on machine work which is easily performed here. Not to mention the risk of customs asking for their share of the cost as well.

Your chances of finding a 1275 block in the wreckers is very slim, you would best be contacting some of the parts guys in the Mini business directory here: http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=10543

Josh at Mini Imports brings in a lot of mini engines if you are after someone locally. Can also help with disc brakes etcetera as well to go with the conversion.
