Post subject:  auto park wiper motor
I have disasembled my 2-speed wiper motor for reconditioning (mid 72 model motor)

My question is, as far as i know to repair the auto park function you replace the plate that mini king sells (looks like a big ring with teeth on the inside - dont know what to call it).

Anyway i never found this part when dissasembling mine. So is mine not an autopark motor??

what else should i look at replacing while it is dissasembled to recondition it properly??

Is it a round motor, these all had autopark. One of mine the whole ring has rotted away... :shock:
The square motors have a different setup.

No its a round based motor.

Where does the plate actually go, and how big is it?

The park plate sits in the back of big gear, the crankpin and plate must be tapped out first to get to the 4 bent tabs that hold the park plate in.

Sits within the large wheel. It has a section cut out of it where one of the two brushes contact the disc.

The idea (in a nutshell) is that when you turn the cabin switch off, 12 volts continues to be supplied to the motor via this disc. The motor will continue to turn until such time the brush runs onto the part of the disc which has been cut out. It's now resting on plastic. The motor will be denied it electricity jibbers and will stop. If the disc is accurately aligned within the wheel, then the wipers will be also in the parked position at the time.

If you make sure the wheel boxes and tube and flexible cable are greased up and running smoothly, then it will work nicely wet or dry. Newly rebuilt just like this, my wipers do this really well, everytime.

Mick there is more to it than that, when it gets to the park spot the +12V disappears and the armature is also then shorted to ground, dynamically braking the motor to a screaming halt. 8)

Ahh, You're right Doc. Via the switch.
Crazy wiper motors....

That reminds me. I have to make up a little bridging wire between the motor and the rad side angle brace in the engine bay..they had one fitted there...

Well worth the efforts anyway Brenton, self parking wipers are that little piece of luxury in your mini :)

So Doc which part is it in this diagram from the parts catalogue, as thats what mine looked like when i dismantled it. Is it attached to part 27??

That makes more sense with respect to the shorted armature.

This is a drawing of a Uk wiper motor, The park system works differently to the Aust Model, However the Park plate On the Aust Model is Located under No 27 in your drawing, Other than the park plate Check the contatcs that run on the park plate, You will find these are conected to the splade conectors located in the little plastic piece at the rear of the wiper motor, Also check the brushes And comutator, The last two items do not tend to be a big problem on this Model Wiper Motor However

I found where the plate is :lol: :lol: :lol: It was covered in grease

Thanks for the info John, that diagram i got from the parts manual containing YG2S6,7&8. Yeah that manual has a lot of Brittish stuff, i didnt know there was a difference between aussie and brittish but it should still help me with reassembly i think.

Probably get a phone call next week to order a wiper plate :D
