Post subject: | Mini SA + Hotbricks SA |
I have been a Hotbricks member for 11 years. I just got a questionaire regarding the club that culminated in this suggestion, MCCSA + MMCCSA. I see this team as a powerful combination at Hay. As far as I know there became 2 SA clubs long ago in the dark ages due to 'political' issues. I think the 2 clubs would work well as 1. I Like the people in all mini clubs, and don't really like the rivalry between the 2 SA clubs, so I think this is a good oppurtunity for SA mini clubs to galvanise and take over the rest of Australia. There is only 1 difference that I don't agree with, but that can wait.... I think it is a good idea and am looking forward to see what comes of it. |

yes its a shame we have two small mini clubs for the one state when we could have 1 big one and do everything better. |

sounds like a great opportunity for Hotbricks to 'chill out' a bit - the details of the negotiations could get interesting! |

Not going to happen. What's wrong with a bit of state rivalry anyways? If SA had one Mini club Hay would be a no contest. With two, Hay is MMCCSA VS. MCCNSW. I know it sounds like a good idea to join, in fact it seems logical. But I just don't think it will happen, I wouldn't stop it if it was going to happen though, but I just think the powers within the club wouldn't want it. |

The 2 clubs could never merge as they both have different opinions on how the Hay mini nationals are conducted. Doogie |

Doogie its not just that doogie, but also the way they run their car shows and in the way cruises and club meetings are run is very different! |

I'm not sure which club I will go with as I have no membership at the moment. Poachers make an offer ![]() |

What's the history , why are there two clubs ? Did it start as two small clubs and they've both grown or one club that split to two groups ? |

The main problem in 1972 was that SAMC allowed all makes to compete and run under their name, Hotbricks just Minis. The latter club was shunned by the established club and there was a 'confrontation' at Hay in 1974 when it tried to stop Hotbricks from competing. Rod Morris was the prime instigator, then president of SAMC. Nearly 40 years later I think Hotbricks has established its credentials. |

Yes December 1972 was when the first group of about 20 guys got together informally to consider forming a club with CAMS approval and form a properly consituted committee. It happened in a flat at West Beach and not everyone who turned up could fit in! The club held its first official run in January 1972 from Taylors of Medindie to Moana Beach - about 30 Minis turned up. From then on it held monthly meetings at the Prospect Sea Scout Hall on Regency Rd. Before that the "club" was really a loose amalgam of mates who all owned Minis, mainly modified Cooper Ss and hot 1100s, who used to congregate in the City and parade down Rundle Street at night (it was still a street not a mall back then). That was in 1971-2. |
