Hey Guys,

I got my shell back from the panel beaters this weekend and I am about to start to slowly put it all back together.. I was just wanting to see if you guys would do it in this order Or is there an easier way?

Run brake and fuel lines under car
Install steering rack.
Install rear subframe
Install front subframe
Fuel tank in and connect.
Engine in.
Steering wheel in.
Run in wiring
lights and sound
Roof lining
Build and attach doors front and back
Make interior.
A million other things

buy a new wiring loom, it will cost you a couple of dollars, but at least you wont be dealing with 40 year old wiring that could short, and burn down all your hard work!!

And I second that motion. I've had the misfortune of trying to figure out the mess that other people have left behind after 40 odd years of "custom" wiring.
Also have relays added to the headlights so you won't run the risk of burning out your switches.

Attach the doors before you build them up, they are buggers to get the hinges right, and more so when the windows are installed.Agree with bumping the wiring up the list too..

hey,

I am thinking about getting a new loom. On that subject, my mini has already got quite a bit of different stuff on it that would not already match the original.

It has A different alternator, Thermo fan, Different gauges, an a plus motor and other stuff that I can't think of at the time. Do you just say I want a loom for a 1975 leyland mini van and I want you to add in this this and this and this is the wiring that I already have for said mods? How much for a loom these days?

No change from 550 I think, there's a few mobs around.

You can simply do as you said and state your add-ins no problems. Alternator wiring is pretty simple for them. Also ask to upgrade your lighting circuits to a higher current carrying grade of wire and include a relay.

Last time I did this option, they did this for free as well as tacho wiring and an in-loom kill hidden switch wire.

While your having a new Loom made up, I suggest you look at not only the devices you have already added, but also the ones you may add later.

Makes adding spots, side lights or Rover air-con a breeze later [pun intended]

I went through classic looms down here in Melbourne. For your dough you can choose braided (as per original mk1, or just cos it's sooooo sexy) or taped loom. It was part of the service way back then to simply add in whatever you needed, only takes them two seconds. They even prompted on the relay placement for the headlights. I could choose under dash, firewall or inner guard.

This time round I scrubbed my original loom, retaped where it was originally taped and cleaned all the connectors. But I had a 80% good loom when I started.
