bought my Riley there a couple of years ago - as some other members here will tell you the Kiwi's aren't too keen on us pinching their cars

It may be a little out of my price range personally...

Just remember We have UK cars, so thay may be badged austin, morris or leyland, or even mini. And usually have internal hinges,

so unlike in aus, you may see a 1979 Morris roundnose with internal hinges and it may be genuine, or it may be an MPI rover with old plates and vin....side indicators are a dead giveaway!

I used to get annoyed about cars going to Aus, but I'd rather they went there than to the US - but I'm not sure why. Perhaps it's because I feel a little guilty about importing that ex-Brock Torana last month...

There seemed to be proportionally much fewer minis in Aus when I was there last week. I saw three or four in 10 days (including a blue van in Coffs Harbour), whereas I see that many in one day in Wellington.

They don't seem to have risen in price much, and some of the rarer models seem to hang around Trade Me for some time. There's been a few Countrymen pop up in salvageable state, plus the odd Mini K and Riley Elfs every now and then.

That mini which the guy wants over NZ$70K for is exceptional - one of the world's best. Probably won't be a kiwi who buys it unless I win lotto this week.

most Aussie mini drivers are sooks who don't take their cars out when it is hot, or when it's raining....

fark... that's a nice car - would go like stink. You'd be looking at $50-70K to build that I reckon

Look, if a car enthusiast in Oz (or anywhere) wants a car from here, that's great. Kiwis bring in heaps of cars from all over the world so it all balances up. I am not sure where the story comes from, that we don't like them leaving but I have heard it repeated. Go for it guys.

Well, no-one likes container loads of 'our special cars' leaving our shores, even if we do import Mustangs and Camaros from the US. There are guys in NZ who do buy up minis and export them in bulk; while it used to annoy me, there's plenty to go around and spares will never be a huge problem (Who wants 30 year old panels when you can buy new?).

Having said that this guy really p!sses me off. Those are our children you're selling!!!

Some of the guys on MiniMania forum get pissed off when buying cheap NZ and Oz Minis from Turkys etc- they expect a car maintained with reverence, they can't understand how we can run em into the ground.
Meh- to most of us 20 years ago Minis were just another cheap, inexpensive small car... and we drove em until they had had it.

This full race mini was #3 in its class in the New Zealand.Seven Series(their Winston Cup series, but only for Minis! Totally race prepared and will run in excess of 125mph! You can not build this car for the asking price of $29,950

A bit of a shame when cars like this go offshore. 125mpg sounds like a stretch for 1000cc regardless of tune.

Hmmm, dealers. Well, that's another matter. These guys do our hobby no good at all, just clipping the ticket as ownership (and money) passes.

surely you don't mind if this one is sent offshore - though maybe only a couple of km, then dumped in the water...

I'm not keen on any country losing their motoring heritage - it's a bit sad when classics from any country are sent elsewhere....
