Post subject:  Why don't my wipers work?
Ok they use to work fine, then they started squealing constantly while they were turned on. Soon after that I rebuilt the car stripping everything out, now ever since I rebuilt the car they haven't worked at all :x .
Before I got the car on 2004 the car was rebuilt by a previous owner who said he used a clubman of an unknown year and orgion as the doner. The car has what appears to be a unmodified clubman wiring loom as it runs clubman clocks and switches.
This is the wiper motor I have;

The car is a 62/63 Morris 850 witch parks on the left;

The numbers on the wiper motor;
62971045
PARK >>>---> 12AUW

and the plug, as far as I can figure using a test light the top right is a negative and the bottom left is a positive, the other 2 don't react;

Now how do I get the motor to work by wiring directly into the inputs on the motor? this way I can figure out if the motor is buggered or not.
And how should the switch in the cab be wired (a pic would be ideal, even hand drawn)? remember it's a clubman switch :wink: .

You need an earth wire from wiper motor to body

Read this whole thread, it explains how the motor autopark etc works.

I think You will find that your wipers will park to the left when you get the motor going

Do you mean the side their on in the picture? because that's the side they've always parked on and their single speed non-self parking ie I have to turn the switch off where I want them to stay :wink: .

Is that a fuse going from the wiper motor to the battery?

Yes, the wipers are normally powered from the switched fuse in the fuse box.

They will Park on the opposite side to where they are in the photo,
In the photo they are parked to the left when looking at the photo, However they are parked to the right hand side of the car

John if you turn the crank plate around by 180 deg in the gear and refit, will it not just park on the other (ie driver's) side? One of these 2 speed motors I have here has park <<< on it... 8)

One other point with putting this motor in an early car- if you don't swap the early wheelboxes for late ones, the wipers will wipe 180deg... like Barney's did.

Kev I have not tried what you suggest so I am not sure,, There are some round dody wiper motors with the park direction indicated to the left hand side of the car, I mentioned the park side because the wiper fitted to this car has the park direction indicated to the Left.
The drive wheels in the wiper boxes on the early Minis are smaller in Dia than the drive wheels in the later ones you should be able to put the later wiper boxes in the early cars without problems

:D Success...to some extent. They now work after that wiring diagram (thanks Doc) but they only work exactly the same as they use to ie only single speed and still manual park and they still squeal a bit :? I might try to lube the entire system a bit.

If Is Not parking it is probably your park plate damaged, If you have a look at the other thread it is covered in there, also check if there is three or four terminals on your wiper motor, Three is Single speed Four is Two speed.

Yes 4 Terminals Is two speed, If your switch is wired the correct way and it still will not park it will be the park plate fitted to the rear of the big nylon gear, I do not know of any way to check this without removing the wiper Motor, However once it is out you can remome the plastic cover at the rear of the wiper motor, then check the contacts and the Park Plate
