what type of coil does a mini take and how to you tell if it is a resistant or non resistant?

any std 12v coil will do the job,,, resisted ones usually say on the bum of them "use with resistor" ,,, if you`re suss, then ask whoever/whatever shop you buy the coil from to make sure

The Bosch ones for instance have an R in the part number.

A normal coil is a SU12 and a resistor type coil is SU12R

... and the Bosch sports coils are GT40 and GT40-R.
