Hi there, don't come here much any more. But i have to admit i have meet amazing people here.

I am thinking about selling Henry :shock: . Things have change, we are thinking about building a house and the money is a issue!

I do enjoy my mini but as i don't know much about mechanic it is a bit of hassle, not to mention that mini mechanics are busy or don't get back to you. Henry need a service and some work, but as we save money this has come down the priority list. The car spend most of it's time in the shed gathering dust!!!

Very unsure of what to do!!!

Anyway, anyone interested in my car!!!

If you are asking, then you probably will. If you have the passion for the mini in your soul that most of us here have you will regret it, but sometimes it is the only way.

I reckon you should keep Henry.

But he is your car so do what you need to do to be happy!

Dont sell Henry! You will regret it. Find a good mini shop and spend some money on Henry and drive him again. You will get the mini bug back and regret you ever thought of selling him! I have sold too many of my minis over the years and i would have every one back if i could.

i wouldn't sell, especially since you have put a sh!t load of work time and $$$$'s into it. You will always regret it and never get the money you think its worth.

To the best of my opinion the "mini workshop" in question that you have taken "Henry" to in the past has been quite busy, somethings do slip out of peoples minds but if you contact them early next (workday) week to the best of my knowledge there is some time available after the 23/02/2009.
From the 02/03/2009 the shop will be busy bringing life to another Ausmini members car and making it just the way they would like it. (to my knowledge but best you contact them and sort out an available time.)

totally agree with ballistic on this one, ane when you do get back into minis later on it's just going to cost you more

Understandable if it's about affordability. Sometimes you have to cut somewhere.
I was in the same position in the late '70's when I got out of mini's so I could get a house etc. Thing is my ex-wife now has that house and I had no mini.
I traded up on the wife front and years later am now indulging myself with 2 minis.
Get out if you have to, keep the house and come back as soon as you can.

Best of luck which ever way you go.

Louis,

There are plenty of people in Geelong who will help you with basic maintenance stuff on your mini.

As for selling, if you have put lots of time and $$ into Henry, you probably won't get back what you put into it. There will come a time once you have your house and what not that you will be able to spend the money to enjoy Henry to his best. In the mean time he's probably better off spending some time in the shed getting dusty.

I'm not sure what stage Henry is at, but if he's registered and road worthy and just needs some basic up-keep, ask some Geelong people to come around and show you basic maintenance that will keep Henry healthy. The majority of mini-people love helping to see that there is another mini in good condition out there.

If he's a good mini with a good clean body the rest can be fixed. if thats the case he's worth holding onto.

In life we work to have a house and a table and to put food on that table and people forget that they need to do things for pleasure as well as just surviving. Keep him for a bit of fun

Thats my thoughts.

Louis , nearly everyone goes through this at some stage , the ones that don't sell are relieved they didn't sell 6 months down the track , the ones that do often regret it .

Louise, i once thought that i wanted to sell my mini and actually put it in the trading post. After it was in i spent the next few days telling people that it was`nt for sale when they rang. I realised that i could`nt sell it.

I have been in a similar situation to yourself. I just parked NAV in the garage until I was able to afford the attention he needed.
I'm actually in a tight spot financially again, and NAV needs his bottom end rebuilt but he's just sitting there patiently waiting for me to attend to his needs. I have come so close to selling him a while ago, even had someone lined up to buy him and thankfully they pulled out.

Just park Henry and put some covers over him and view Henry as an asset that will appreciate in value over time. And realistically the 6-10k you could get for Henry ( I haven't seen Henry so I'm just making a point here) is a drop in the mortgage ocean

Louis, There is an old saying "Absence make the heart grow fonder". If it wasn't for someone offering up their loved one 99% of us here on this forum would not have a Mini. A house is a very big commitment and many before you have made such a decision i know i did. Economics will make the decision for you. If you are fortunate enough you will be able to moth ball it, if not your desire to own a mini will not wain and when the time is right you will again grab the wheel of a Mini.
