not true.... a member on here has a great single axle trailer that i used last year to pick up my moke using a turbo diesel astra as the tow vehicle... no problems with it what so ever... perfect size for minis/mokes and weighed around 150kg...

G'day all, As it states, will one day need a small car trailer (to be towed by my small car) to tow a small car (mini). Mini weight = about 660 kg, all the car trailers I have seen are tandem axle and are about 800kg in weight. My small car can only tow 1200kg max (with a braked trailer) Therefore, trying to find some company who rents a single axle car trailer suitable for a mini that weighs less than 500kg. Do they exist? (the trailer and the company!) Don't need one at the moment, but one day (hopefully soon) may need to retrieve a car which I may find. Thanks for any leads |

Good luck, hire car trailers are made to carry Falcadores and the like. I'm not sure I'd be that comfortable about towing a car on a single-axle trailer anyway, you really do want the stability the two axles provide.. even in the absence of an emergency. I towed an 18' caravan behind our old Subie Forester a few years ago, and that was scary.. the caravan was probably as heavy (if not more) as the car, there were a few downhill moments when the tail wagged the dog pretty badly. You'll have the same problem with a Mini on a car trailer, especially if it's single-axle. |

The cause of the trailer swaying (tail wagging the dog) is due to weight distribution. You need more weight over the front of the trailer than over the rear. Minis on a trailer usually tow quite well because of the engine in the front. But if you put the car on the trailer the other way around... 
If you have a problem with the trailer swaying you need to move the load forward. |

Heh.. didn't really have much of an option with the 'van -- it was empty 
I'm a bit of a belts-n-braces guy, I don't much like the idea of approaching limits without a bit of a safety net... like another wheel to take the load when a tyre blows

that one looks like it should be a tandem... id definately buy a twin axle trailer... they just seem so much nicer on the road. we tow with a ford territory and you cant even tell there is anything there with a mini on the trailer and our trailer is pretty heavy.. id happily tow a mini with a commodore or something on a heavy trailer |
