Post subject:  a few questions...
Ok.

having a really dumb slow day (nothing odd about that actually...) but in saying that i have a couple of questions...

1. Where does one mount an oil pressure line into the block :oops: (just got my dual gauge, water temp is all good...) just need to know where to mount into block,

2. Where would i find fittings for this oil pressure gauge? (both ends... and line as well...)

3. Got a lovely thermo housing with water temp hole in it... got a little rust in it. Could i soak this in something to clear it out before i put it on? if so what?

and finally,

4. Is it possible to mount (wire in) a clubby tacho into my 66 moke? (again, if so how...)

apologies for the lengthy-ness and noobness of post... :oops:

flywheel end of the block, half way down

put a post in the wanted forum - you want the bits off a Mini K, or you can buy a gauge kit, but the thread mightn't suit your block...

don't do it - anything you soak it in will eat away the alloy, put a wire brush on the end of your drill and clean it manually

and finally,

4. Is it possible to mount (wire in) a clubby tacho into my 66 moke? (again, if so how...)

too much pain, get an aftermarket one

that one is dead sexy Matt though I wonder if you shouldn't be looking at something like these marine ones for the moke , http://cars.shop.ebay.com.au/items/?_nk ... acat=72535 , might be a bit more durable in an open car .

definately noted.... wiring in may be an issue (im pretty bad at car electrics...) would it have to be calibrated for use on a car?

Someone else can confirm but any 4 stroke tacho that can be switched to 4 cylinder should do . a 2 stroke 2 cylinder one will be the same as a 4 stroke 4 cylinder too I think .

autobahn sell t-piece adapters (VDO ones) and oil pressure lines to suit smiths gauges. I bought a speco line which is copper? brass? but it's not one with the coil/spring around it so is prone to fatigue due to vibration. if you get one like this put a couple of loops at the end to dampen vibrations about 5cm or so from where it attaches to the block.

VDO make two t-piece adapters which makes things a little more confusing... take down your oil pressure switch if you can, so you can test the threads on the VDO parts.

do a search on here, there's a lot of information on installing oil pressure gauge and pressure switch.

So i asked the seller about one of those tacho's that sports put up whether it could be used in a car.... here's the reply...

Alright.... went out and found the T adaptor.... couldnt find it at autobahn or supercrap or ripco.... just so happened i had to pick up a gift voucher for the missus brother at (american rare) Auto Spares, just outta the blue asked the guy at the counter (the owner... top bloke by the way...) "oh yeh sure... hang on a tick..."
Minute later brings back 2 Redline items...

RGA-31 Oil gauge adaptor 1/8in (a,b and c are all 1/8")
LK-1 Oil pressure gauge line kit. (to suit 1/8")

done and dusted for under 40 bucks, pretty happy with that :)

No , a little oil might dribble out while you're fitting it but it will be only minor , not enough to worry about .

Just dont have the engine running and you wont have a problem with the oil coming out :P
