I want multiple votes , I love small bore engines (850's then 998 in particular) as they encourage you to drive the chassis to it's potential rather than the power of the engine . I like the lazy power of a 1275 or larger though for the ability to get more power once you know how to drive the chassis but would also like to try a different head on one , be it crossflow , twin cam or whatever . I would actually like to do the old style engine conversion with a more modern motor/better designed head onto a mini gearbox , I like the gearbox in sump design and the original subframe design , it's what makes mini's unique . I think the twibn cam turbo Daihatsu 3 cylinder would be brilliant on an A series box . I would like to do an engine conversion though , but something like a kei class engine with all wheel drive , the fun of mini's isn't about all out power but the handling with the power , imagine cooper s type performance but in all wheel drive , now that would be awesome .... |

A Because they sound good, the car usually comes with one and with a few mods a 998 is good for 8500rpm. Yeah other cars engines make more power but unless its done as well as Bens starlet gt clubby they will just be a hassle. And the only person who will willingly work on it will be the person who did the conversion. |

Oh , and not interested in motorbike rear wheel dirve ones , might as well make a clubman/lotus style car if you're doing that , there's nothing mini about it other than the shape , handling is the key to mini enjoyment . Super/turbo charged is on the cards too , I need another two or three lifetimes to do everything I want to .... |

Picture this a mini van on tens with 3 2lt turbo vtech auto's making it 6wd, 6lt, 12 cyc, tri turbo. Thats what I would like to do if I had the money and the time + test pilot. Other than that any A series at 8500 sound fantastic. |

There is something simply orgasmic about a well tuned A series at high revs ... |

1.Big bore A for power and cruising. 2.Small bore A for authenticity if original and they just 'feel' nice. 3. Forced induction if you like blowing off. 4. Non A motor if you like Mini's but want something more modern. Each application is different but they all put a smile on your face. ![]() |

i love the sound of an a-series at any revs ![]() i like smallbore a-series because they are very economical, long lived and suit the car perfectly. with a little tickle they can be made to go nicely and really suit the minis handling and braking. i like the bigbore a-series because they stand for rally wins and touring car wins and really give a mini potential. they go up hills easily and are a pleasure to drive due to the increased torque. i like twin cams because thats what the a-series should have evolved into and its what everyone else did and minis didnt ![]() i like boosted minis because they can be driven like a normal mini and return good economy, yet have an incredible torque curve and can beat even modern performance cars in a straight line with a 50's design.. cool ![]() i like hybrids because thats what the potential of the mini could have been if they had redesigned it. i love the quiet engines, the fact they dont lose tune, the 5 speed boxes and the modern reliability, smoothness and i like EFI and electric ignition for economy reliability and driveability. but subframes and body modifications are a worry and cost of engineering etc... i like bike engine minis because its supercar slaying in a mini nuff said ![]() |

Modern Jap twin cam 16V = reliability+economy+power+5 speed box All within the cost of Jack Knight box. *Disclaimer* Not that there isn't a place for originality ot the A-Series - just about to go fire up the 1430cc and join in a short street rod cruise!!! |

I said big bore A series because they go so well and with an electric dizzy and a couple or little mods they are very competitive in today's traffic. So long as it's not heavily modified and well maintained they are fuel friendly and easy to keep on the road. |
